the server is version 1.0.2
the public key looks like this (again with specific data changed):
Public key file : key
Algorithm : rsa
Key length (bits) : 2048
Real name : Some Company Intranet
Username : silc
Hostname : server.somecompany.com
Email : user at somecompany.com
Organization : Some Company
Country : FOO
Fingerprint (SHA1) : A306 6ABB 6130 C716 4FFC 3382 61E9 F1F2 6E53 94AA
Babbleprint (SHA1) :
xomob-kepir-ramyf-bycuc-kufyz-susym-dumyv-nasez-derih-fohup-pyxyx
i can mail you the complete public key directly, if you like.
the only thing i noticed is that "Hostname" does not contain the DNS name
that clients use to connect to that server.

its a bit hard to say, since the refreshing of the buddy list and the dialog
boxes happend at pretty much exactly the same time. but after connecting a
few times, i'd say the error happens a few milliseconds before the
refreshing of the buddy list.
no errors in the logfiles of the server, either. but i noticed that the
server reports the connection as having PFS, although "perfect forwarding
secrecy" is not enabled in the pidgin options.
